This isn't a very recent event, but I would like to share it with whoever has the time to read it. In class we are doing portfolios and I wrote my personal narative on meeting Josh Hutcherson! He is in Bridge to Terabithia, Zathura, Little Manhattan, Firehouse Dog, and Journey to the Center of the Earth! It is a roughdraft, so I might update it every once in a while so that you can see the newest copy.
Starstruck
Meeting a celebrity isn’t an everyday occasion, and when you have a chance to meet one of course you would take it. I wanted to be an actor, just like him. In fact, I wanted to be exactly like him, even though I had never actually met him. I mean why would I have met him; it’s not like he was a celebrity or anything.
Waiting for him, was for me, like waiting for a loved one to come home from war. It felt as if it would never happen. I sat at my desk, going through a crazy jitterbug crisis; I just could not control myself. I bounced up and down, swayed from side to side and my entire body was shaking violently as if I was being tased. Every second that went by my mind was filling up with thoughts about how my meeting was going to go. Maybe I could perform my Speech and Drama piece for him. He would then tell me I was absolutely fabulous and should be an actor. He would talk to some people for me and I was guaranteed to become famous. I had a feeling that after we met we were going to be great friends.
Bzzzzzzzzzzzz . . . “May all of the Speech and Drama students please come down to the multipurpose room . . . may all of the Speech and Drama students please come down to the multipurpose room, thank you,” said the raspy voice over the intercom.
I was the first one to get out of my seat. I didn’t even ask my teacher if I was permitted to leave. The only thing I was focused on was getting down to the multipurpose room as soon as possible to meet the celebrity. I was almost to the room; the door was in sight. My feet were no longer walking, but now in running mode. Nothing was going to slow my run; I was determined. The door was propped open, and I caught a glimpse of him. Oh my goodness! The celebrity was Josh Hutcherson. I already new the celebrity was Josh Hutcherson, but I was dying. I . . . Zachary Raleigh was looking into the eyes of a celebrity, a famous person, a star. My eyes were opening and closing to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I was starstruck! My eyes quickly searched the room for the nearest seat closest to him. I found my spot and quietly waited for everyone else to get settled. A few of my friends settled around me, all excited as well. Everyone in the room had their eyes glued on Josh. He thanked us all for letting him come and told us we were free to ask any questions. I was suddenly afraid; I didn’t want to say something that made me look stupid. So I sat and listened to him answer all of the questions that were thrown at him. I soon realized that this was a once in a life time opportunity and if I didn’t ask him a question now, I would probably never get the chance to again. I rattled my mind for a question to ask him and the perfect one came. My hand lifted into the air and waited patiently. He pointed his figure at me.
“How do you know if someone really wants to be your friend or if they just want to be your friend because you’re famous?” I said, choking on a few of the words.
“That’s a very good question.” said the feminine voice from the corner. Earlier, while Josh was thanking us, he told us that she was his mom.
He took a moment to think and then spoke.
“Naturally I think that most people are good people and I know that the friends I have really want to be my friend.” He spoke clearly. When the questions were finished the entire Speech and Drama team got a group picture with him and my Speech and Drama coach gave him an Ockerman Middle School Speech and Drama shirt. My assistant principal Mr. Berry then gave him an Ockerman Hawks sweatshirt, (I bought the same one that afternoon after school). I got two pictures with just him and me. He also signed my Boone County High School Forensics sweatshirt and signed two pieces of paper; it was if I had died and gone to heaven!
I will never forget the day I met the one and only Josh Hutcherson!
This event is important to me because I had never met a celebrity before and I had always dreamed of meeting one. This event will always be important to me because he told my entire Speech and Drama team that if we really wanted acting to be our career, than to never give up and to never let anyone ever tell us that we couldn’t do it, because if we wanted it bad enough it would happen. This touched me and made me believe that I will become an actor!
Thank you Josh, for everything!
